You’ve Been Remade

I was driving back to Eugene from Salem a few weeks ago and this song came on the radio. I was so moved by the lyrics and truth in the song. Sometimes I believe lies about my sin (past sin especially) that I am no longer good or worthy in God’s eyes or I just get really down on myself about things that have happened in the past. This song is such a great reminder about how it is not about what I do good or bad, but it is about what Jesus did for me on the cross and how I live my life differently because of that. I have been remade and am constantly being remade and refined by God into the person He wants me to be. Realizing this and truly believing that I am not the person I once was and that God has made me into a new person can make all the difference in how I live and how I see and treat other people. It is always so amazing to me that God loves me so much that He would show such grace to me and bring me into the most loving and personal relationship with Him. Even more amazing is that He longs for a personal relationship with every single person, He is there with open arms waiting for each of us to come running to Him. I am so thankful for His love and this song as a reminder of what Jesus did for me on the cross.

Our security in Christ

Today in church we went over the end of Romans 8 and it is such a powerful passage. Particularly verses 37-39

“No in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that

neither death nor life,

neither angels not demons,

neither the present nor the future,

nor any powers,

neither height nor depth,

nor anything else in all creation,

will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

How great is is that we have a God that loves us so much that He won’t let any of those things separate us from Him. It seriously blows my mind when I stop and think about it. I am loving the church I am going to (Ekklesia). Going through Romans 8 has been so great. The pastor would talk on a few verses a morning and in those two verses there would be so much truth and knowledge to be learned about God.

On another note, I can’t believe the term is almost over! It seems like all my teachers saved the loads of work for the end! In the next two weeks I have 4 papers, a midterm, a discussion and normal homework. Then its finals week! But in less than 3 weeks I will be done and 3 weeks from today Gavin will be here!! So at least there is that to look forward to 🙂

Is anybody else have lots of work at the end of this term?? Also I just remembered that I have homework due online on Thanksgiving!! Seriously what teacher doesn’t change the due date when the normal day the homework is due is Thanksgiving?!? Am I the only one that thinks this is a little ridiculous???

A much needed lift after a rough week

This last week has been a little pretty rough. Between midterms, group projects, discussion groups, research proposals, missing people in SLO, hormones doing their thing, the rain starting and life in general I just have had not the best week.

So you are probably like “KC where is the lift after this rough week?”

Well I was on grooveshark making a playlist of praise/worship songs. (BTW if you haven’t check out gooveshark its pretty cool. Basically like Pandora – commercials + getting to make your own playlist = amazingness) So I was making my playlist and typed in “How Deep The Father’s Love” because lets be honest what a great song right? I was looking through the artists that had done a version of the song and I saw a name I wasn’t expecting to see owl city. Now if you don’t know owl city please go listen to them here, here and here.

Onto the ultimate lift in my day/week. Mmmmmmm such goodness.

Reasons why this what this was the best lift to my day

  1. I LOVE this song! It is such a good song! I feel like I am such a sucker for hymns. The lyrics are always so poignant and to the heart.
  2. Owl city makes such happy music it can’t help but put a smile on your face, or at least I can’t.
  3. Put the first two together and what do you get? KC overcome by the reality of the lyrics of the song = shedding a few tears (I mentioned the hormones earlier, right?) BUT at the same time smiling the biggest smile because of the lyrics (funny how they can do that to you huh? laughing and crying) AND smiling because Owl City’s music just puts a smile on my face!

So now my friends feast your ears on this lovely little tune 🙂

Sidenote this song isn’t on any of their albums ultimate sad face 😦 BUT it is on grooveshark and youtube 🙂

Now off to study more for my midterm tomorrow, looking forward to a relaxing evening tomorrow and making leek potato soup. Yes I’m SO excited. Hopefully it turns out well & I will have a delicious recipe to share with you all. Also I have other recipes to share and other things of life. Sometimes there are just so many ideas floating around in my head it is hard to find the time to write them all down!

p.s. while I was writing this it started to thunder and lightening and I could see the lightening flash outside my window. For some reason I find thunder and lightening storms really relaxing. Is that strange? Well I love it. Bring it on thunder and lightening you make for perfect studying weather!

I LOVE MY DUCKS…and other happenings of the weekend

Actually before I get to the game I want to write about my Friday night/Saturday morning. Alexa has a friend who is involved in a middle school ministry called Campus Life (it seems similar to Young Life) and she needed volunteers for, drumroll please…..A MIDDLE SCHOOL ALL NIGHTER!! WOOOO!! The aim of the night was to have a fun night and get the kids interested in the program so then they would come to the meetings and here the good news that is Jesus Christ! So there were middle schools from all around the Eugene area. The group was split in half (about 500 students in each group!!) so there was less middle school chaos. The first place our group went for the night was skate world. Skate world is a pretty standard 80’s skating rink. For the most part there was chaos, but it was fun! Alexa and I got to skate some so that was pretty cool! I did really well too, and the only time I fell was because this big kid ran into me while I was trying to keep kids that didn’t have skates on from coming on the skating rink/area. They had a presentation about what Campus Life is and very briefly talked about Jesus and the Gospel. Alexa and I kind of crashed during this, considering it was almost 3am and the kiddos were all paying attention to the presentation we took advantage of the situation. Then we all loaded buses and headed over to the Regional Sports Complex in Springfield. Here there was volleyball, ping pong, basketball, dodge ball, air brush tattoos, a dance, laser tag and FOOD!! So for the rest of the night we made sure everyone was safe, not doing stupid things and trying to stay awake/coherent. I got home around 7:30 talked to Gavin before he headed to Fresno for the game and then CRASHED! It was verrrryyy nice to sleep after spending 11 hours chaperoning middle schoolers

GAME DAY!

Basically I am pretty stoked on Oregon football. The enthusiasm here is phenomenal, I love it! It makes me wish Poly had this kind of spirit, because I probably would have been more into football and sports there. But, these are the differences between big Pac-10 schools and smaller FCS schools. Anyway, game day started out pretty good the video above was posted on Saturday and got me even more pumped for the game, even though I didn’t have a ticket (rant on how the ticketing system s-u-c-k-s at another time). I went with Alexa to watch the game at a friends parents house. First about the game: the first half scared me a little. I wish they could just come out in the first half how they have been playing the second half. Thankfully we rocked Stanford’s world in the second half and won by two touch downs!! Also, we are now #3!!!! WOOOOO!! Now Ohio State needs to loose (sorry Ryan if you are reading this) and Oregon win out, and we are going to the BCS National Title Game!!! Woooooooo! How awesome would that be?!?!?! Basically it would be amazing! So I’m rooting for anyone that plays Alabama or Ohio State and of course representing my ducks 🙂 Also here is a link to the original I Love My Ducks video from before the Rose Bowl

As far as watching the game goes I met some really awesome people! One girl was friends with Tyler B from high school, so that was really cool! Another girl was from Santa Clarita originally and knew people that I know from Poly. (Heather if you are reading this, she said she knew you from church!) What a small world right?! So that was really awesome to get to watch the game and get to know some sweet people. After the game honestly I was exhausted! A few people came over and we watched an episode of community, which was pretty funny, and then I was ready for bed!

Sunday was my catch up day! Both on sleep and some homework. I was feeling a little sick/catching a cold so I went to church slept a lot did some stuff around the house and then went to CCF. It was cool to go and catch up with people I had met this summer and get to hear the message. The college pastor is looking at 1 Cor. 13 and the different characteristics of love and how they apply to relationships (dating, marriage, friendship and people you encounter) Sunday he talked about patience and it was good and interesting how patience truly is a HUGE part of loving someone.

Thats all for now! How were all of your weekends?? Did you have a college football game that you were especially into or cared about the results of?

Vacation in California

So I finished summer school and it was time for VACATION!! Basically I was really excited to come down and just get to relax and spend sometime down here with some pretty great people   : )

Friday: I got up early and went up to Portland to catch my plane. My dad and I made a stop along the way to pick up a surprise for Gavin. Then I had a layover in Vegas and ended up getting my boots shined, they look gooooood! I caught my plane to Orange County where Gavin picked me up! I gave him his surprise, which was donuts from Voo Doo. I had been eating them in front of him on skype, so I figured I would let him enjoy some with me. The picture to the right is of Gavin with a maple bacon bar, which isn’t as weird as it sounds. When you think of the donut as a pancake, the maple frosting as maple syrup, and then bacon it works! You can ask Gavin if you don’t believe me, or I will post a video on Facebook of Gavin eating it! I also brought us Voo Doo dolls (SO GOOD!) and a few others. So we hung out at Newport Beach and ate Voo Doo donuts and just relaxed. We went in the water a little and drove around Newport. I had never been there so it was fun to go around and explore. Let me just say The OC did not accurately portray Newport! So then we left Newport and continued on our adventure South. We drove through Laguna Beach and a few other towns then we stopped in Dana Point. The Ocean Institute wasn’t open, but we went down to where you can go look at the tide pools, but the tide was high, so we just watched the waves! The ocean is just so relaxing to watch. We played around on the stairs racing the waves in. To the left is us at Dana Point with the ocean behind us. It was so pretty!! I would love to go back sometime when the tide is lower and be able to check out the tide pools and all the cool little sea creatures that live there! We were off from Dana Point and headed South again. We hit some traffic around San Clemente, so we decided to just get off and have dinner there. It took us about 20 minutes to find a parking spot that was somewhat near the pier/beach. We went down to the road that is right by the beach and got some pizza (white sauce with chicken SO YUMMY!) Then we took it to the beach, which was right across the street and watched the suffers and the sunset and enjoyed our pizza. Over all it was a really relaxing dinner/evening. Also it was fun to watch all the suffers ride the waves. I felt very SoCal! The picture to the right is of Gavin and me relaxing and enjoying the sunset. Life doesn’t get much better does it?  : )

After San Clemente Krista met Gavin and me in Oceanside and I went with Krista down to her house to stay the night before Vince and Angela’s wedding. Overall Friday was a very busy and fun day of exploring Orange county!!

Saturday: During the late morning Krista’s family and myself played settlers. It was fun and Krista won, but only because we let her interim build that one time : ) Then Krista and I got ready for the wedding and headed up to Trabuco Canyon for the wedding. It was a really nice ceremony and then we headed over to the reception. It was a really fun night and great to celebrate Vince and Angela. Also it was great to get to see friends from Poly again and get to have a great time with them! Angela (and Vince) planned a wonderful wedding and I had a great time! The picture to the left is of Vince, Gavin, me and Angela. These two have become such great friends of both Gavin and mine over the past two years we were honored to get to share their special day with them!

I will say though it was a little strange to go to a wedding of our friends. I guess it is that time in our lives where our friends start getting married. I know this is just the beginning and in the next 5-10 years more and more of our friends are going to be getting married! It makes me realize that I am getting older, growing up and this is what people do during this time of life. Not that I haven’t thought about this before, but that it has actually started happening didn’t quite seem real at first. I don’t know if any of that made sense, but if it didn’t thats ok!

Sunday: Gavin, Garret and I went to Disneyland!! I love Disneyland so much and it was even better because we used our free ticket from volunteering so we didn’t have to pay to get in! I will let pictures do the talking because a picture says 1,000 words, right?

The three of us in front of the castle

I love Eeyore!!

Splash Mountain! Check out the video on Facebook : )

Mickey!!

Love the fireworks!!

Minnie!!

Monday: I relaxed! I was so worn out from everything that I pretty much slept all day!! I went to a surprise going away party for Quinn that was really fun and great to see everyone. Then Gavin and I watched Dear John and then I pretty much crashed!

Tuesday (Yesterday): Gavin and I went to Pismo and Gavin took me boogie boarding! We took pictures, but I forgot to put my main memory card in, so I don’t have a way of getting them off until I get back to Eugene. But it was really fun!! Then we went to Old West Cinnamon Rolls. They were soooo good!! I got a mix to make once I am back in Eugene! Then Gavin and I made dinner. I think I am going to post the recipe, so I won’t write about it here. But it was delicious! Then we went to Summer Crusade! Nick Weber was speaking and it was so great! I always love when he talks. It makes me wish I had gone to the rain while I was here, but oh well can’t go back in time. But he was talking about how the Gospel needs to be central in our lives as Christians and how we can preach the Gospel to ourselves every day. I could write a whole blog on that, but I don’t think I will right now.

Wednesday (Today!): Today has been pretty relaxing as well. Gavin came over to Krista and Nicoles condo (where I am staying) and we have been hanging out. In a little Gavin and Garret are going to take me rock climbing! I am pretty excited I have never been before so we will see how that goes!! I’m sure I will have a few pictures to post later.

Ok if you are still reading this props to you! I am impressed! I think I went a little long because I want to be able to remember everything!! I hope you enjoyed reading this extremely long post, and if you are in SLO let me know!! I would love to see as many people as I can while I am down here!!

I don’t feel like writing my paper….so I am going to write on here

Thursday night going out to camp Harlow and the campfire was a really great night. There were skits (most of which were kind of inside jokes, so I didn’t totally get them) and songs, and worship. Overall it was really great night! There was this one presentation, it wasn’t really a skit because there wasn’t anyone talking. But it was like a visual representation of sin and the Gospel. A person put a chair with a sign taped to it that read sin. There was music playing and then a girl from the leadership team was up on stage. She would look at the chair and think about it, and then walk away, then look back at it. Finally she went over to and was looking at the chair and finally touched it, just with one finger, but she touched it. And she was stuck, she couldn’t take her finger away from the chair. She tried so hard, but couldn’t. Then her hand got stuck on the chair. After that two girls who seemed to be friends walked up on stage. They waved at her, but she stood in front of the sign that said sin, and tried to act as normal as possible. This process went on, until she was kneeling/sitting on the chair and totally stuck, heartbroken and crying. Then a man came up on stage. Slowly, little by little, he took her hands and legs off the chair. Then he took her place on the chair. Finally he threw the chair off the stage (it was outside, so he threw it onto some dirt) symbolizing the defeat of sin. It was just such a real and beautiful picture of Jesus coming and saving us from sin.

He died so that we could have life.

What a beautiful thing? I can’t think of anything more beautiful and filled with love. So much so that had tears coming down my face by the time he finally tossed the chair off stage. I wish I had taken a video of it so other people could have seen it, but I didn’t so my description will just have to do.

Also Thursday night I met one of Tyler’s friends who is on the leadership team out at Harlow and she is possibly looking for a roommate and a new place to live. So that is really exciting! She seems really nice. Talking with her it was evident that she has a fire and passion for the Lord. It was so awesome and refreshing to talk to another woman that has that fire! It reminded me of friendships from SLO, and that was just really great! Tomorrow I am going to go to the church she normally goes to, and then we are going to have lunch and she is going to come look at the apartment! I am looking forward to checking out another church down here, and hopefully getting closer to finding a home church. One other thing, she is part of a bible study of women who are really getting into the word and talking about what it is saying. I’m pretty excited to go check this out too, probably once I get back from California. But I really want to find a solid group of women to become a part of, because especially at the end of the year I was really coming to realize how important fellowship and community with other sisters in Christ is for my relationship with the Lord and just my life in general!!

These past few days I have been in pseudo-summer. Basically not having class or any commitments, but having school work to do. I think it might be worse than having class because summer is so close, yet so far!! Well now off to make it a little closer and work on my 311 paper

p.s. I fly into California in less than a week! And in less than a week Vince and Angela will be married!! So exciting!!!!

p.p.s. I am wanting some good books to read while on vacation! Any suggestions??? I think Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis will be one, but I have a feeling I am going to finish that and want some others to read! I am open to suggestions!!
